Counselling FAQs
We are currently not offering any individual counselling appointments
-
Counselling offers a safe, supportive space to explore a wide range of experiences — from anxiety, stress, and grief, to relationship issues, low self-esteem, life transitions, or feeling stuck. You don’t need to be in crisis to reach out; this space is here for healing, reflection, and growth.
-
Not at all — you can book directly, no referral needed. Some people come to counselling through a GP or other health professional, but you’re welcome to connect when you feel ready.
-
Counselling with a registered counsellor (e.g. ACA or PACFA member) isn’t currently covered under Medicare. Only services provided by psychologists, social workers, or occupational therapists (under a Mental Health Care Plan) are eligible for rebates.
Some private health funds (e.g. Bupa, Teacher’s Health Fund, Medibank & HCF) may offer partial rebates — feel free to check with your provider, if you have this available under your ‘Extras’ Policy
-
Most sessions run for around 50 to 60 minutes. We can also tailor this depending on your needs and preferences.
-
Everyone’s journey is different. Some people come for just a few sessions, others find ongoing support helpful. We’ll talk together about what feels right for you.
-
Yes — everything you share is treated with care and confidentiality. The only exceptions are if there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if legally required (e.g. a subpoena, mandatory reporting). If any of these situations arise, I’ll always talk with you about it.
-
Counsellors support people with emotional wellbeing, relationships, stress, grief, and personal growth.
Psychologists can diagnose mental health conditions and provide Medicare-funded therapy.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialise in mental illness and can prescribe medication.
Each plays a different role — sometimes people work with more than one type of support.
-
Yes, I offer sessions online (via Zoom) or over the phone. It’s a flexible option for those who prefer support from home or are located remotely.
-
Our first session is a gentle start — a chance for you to share what’s bringing you to counselling, explore your goals, and get a sense of whether we’re a good fit. You’re welcome to go at your own pace.
-
If you need to reschedule or cancel, I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less notice may incur a fee, as your session time has been set aside just for you.
-
Yes — I’m registered with both the Australian Counselling Association (ACA - Level 4) as well as PACFA (Clinical Member). This ensures I follow ethical guidelines, under regular clinical supervision and maintain ongoing professional development.
-
My counselling style is warm, person-centred, and tailored to your unique needs. I draw from approaches such as person-centred therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, narrative therapy, trauma-informed practice, emotionally-focussed therapy; depending on what feels most helpful for you.
Professional Supervision FAQs
-
I provide clinical supervision to counsellors (students and registered), and those who work in the community sector (e.g. pastors, clergy and chaplains).
Whether you’re just starting out or well into your career, supervision is a space for support, reflection, and growth.
-
Yes — I am a registered supervisor with the ACA College of Supervisors which means our sessions can count toward your formal supervision requirements.
-
Supervision is a dedicated space to reflect on your client work, explore ethical dilemmas, strengthen your practice, and take care of your wellbeing. It’s a supportive, collaborative process that helps you grow both personally and professionally.
-
Yes — supervision is available via Zoom or phone. This flexibility is especially helpful for those working remotely or with busy schedules.
-
My standard supervision rate is $100 per hour. I also offer discounted rates for students/recent graduates or group supervision options — please feel free to ask.
-
Absolutely — as a qualified supervisor, I can provide formal supervision that meets the requirements of ACA, PACFA, AASW, or your relevant professional body.
-
Supervision is guided by your needs. You might bring a client case, explore challenges, debrief emotionally, or work on professional goals. It’s a confidential and supportive space to reflect and grow in your role.
I utilise the RISE UP model of Supervision - which covers the following topics:
Self-Care
Client Work
Administration
Ongoing Professional Development
Business and Career Development
We will discuss the model in our first session together and its key components are covered in the supervision agreement.
-
Yes — I offer a monthly group supervision of 6 supervisees for 2 hours. This allows for both ACA and PACFA registered counsellors to participate. It’s a valuable way to share insights, learn from others, and build supportive professional relationships.
For ACA Members, please note that as per the ACA Supervision Policy Ver 12, p.10, one 2-hour block of supervision per month will be counted in their logbooks.
This is to ensure that counsellors undergo regular individual supervision with their primary supervisor, rather than relying on group supervisions to meet their renewal requirements.
-
Absolutely. A trial session is a great way to see if we’re the right fit. There’s no obligation — it’s simply a chance to get to know each other and explore how supervision might support your work.
-
I provide a reflective and grounded space where we explore casework, self-care, professional identity, and cultural competency. My supervision style is relational, encouraging, and shaped by a strong foundation in ethical and practical clinical insight.
I also specialise in working with short-term clients and those of an Asian Background
